DFC investment in Mozambique awarded African Power Deal of the Year
Central Termica de Temane (CTT), a DFC-supported power project in Mozambique, was awarded IJGlobal’s 2021 African Power Deal of the Year for significantly expanding access to electricity in a country where almost two-thirds of the population lacks a reliable power supply.
DFC committed $200 million to support development of the 450 MW power plant in Inhambane Province, Mozambique. In late 2021, DFC disbursed its first loan to CCT, and construction began on the plant in January 2022. When completed, the power plant will have the capacity to generate approximately 14 percent of Mozambique’s installed capacity, enough electricity to serve more than 1.5 million households. A separate project, the Temane Transmission Project, will construct a backbone transmission line transport electricity to other parts of the country.
In addition to emphasizing CTT’s developmental impact, IJGlobal acknowledged DFC, along with several other development institutions, for their contributions to the transformational project.
The annual IJGlobal awards convene members of the international infrastructure community to recognize pivotal transactions in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
The DFC transaction involved the work of multiple investment officers, attorneys, and environmental and social specialists, including Bonnie Guo, Jonathan Maizel, Marie Ecton, and Fred Swartzendruber.
